About The Junior Section
The Memorial Ground, Kings Road is home on Sunday mornings to around 300 young players from age 6 to 18. The club runs 10 age groups, from under 7s to under16s.Training or matches start at 10.30 am. We also run two older teams, the Junior & Senior Colts at u17 and u19, who kick off at 12noon and 2pm respectively. Each age group has RFU qualified coaches.
All age groups play competitive games with local clubs, ranging from the nearest being Manchester and the furthest being on the Wirral about an hour away. The season starts the first weekend of September and continues until the end of April, with the climax being the Cheshire cup finals and our own, highly successful , Festival for the u7 to u12 age groups.
We believe one of the most important aspects is for the children to enjoy themselves; the Club places a high emphasis on Child Welfare, and our Child Protection Officer, Anne Smith, ensures we embrace the RFU guidelines. Please see the Child Welfare Section.
We pride ourselves in the strong sense of family and community at the club. The coaches are given a great deal of support from parents with a whole host of activities such as help in the kitchens, to administrative duties. We are very much one inclusive club, and enjoy a close relationship with the Senior members.
All age groups are looking for new players, so if you are interested, please come down to the club, or contact your relevant age group coach {see Contacts section}.
Child Protection: As a club, we take the development and safety of your child very seriously.
We are determined to adhere to best practice in Child Protection guidelines, as set out by the RFU in the ‘Seal of Approval’ for clubs. Our Child Protection Officer is a highly experienced professional in child welfare.
The vast majority of our coaches are qualified, having attained at least Level 1 coaching Certificate from the RFU.
Please note, we welcome Parental Helpers at all age groups, whether in a coaching or administrative or 1st Aid capacity.
We expect all coaches, match officials, players, parents and supporters to act within the Codes of Conduct laid down in the RFU Continuum. These include Codes for Parents & Spectators, and can be accessed on our website www.wilmslowrugby.com
Safety of the players is paramount. Players must have gum shields and be encouraged to wear them at all times. These can be purchased from the Club Shop.
Boots aluminium studs or moulded rubber studs are preferred, and there must be no burrs or sharp edges. Other types of boot may not be accepted on match days by referees and players will not be allowed to play if their boots do not comply.
Photographs: – From time to time the club and Junior Section may want to use team or match photos for promotional purposes (e.g. match programs, press releases etc.) Obviously no individual names or addresses will be given. If you do not want your child included in such photos, please make this clear to your age group coaches. All membership forms require a parent’s signature giving permission for photography of the children.
Registration will start on the first Sunday in September at 10.00am. It would help enormously if registration forms could be returned with subs beforehand. For those new players, membership forms can be completed in the clubhouse.
-We will have a Dentist who will fit moulded mouth guards.
- The Club shop will be open to purchase club kit.
- Training commences at 10.30.
Sunday training or matches: it would be very helpful if parents could ensure that players arrive by 10.20am and are delivered to their respective training area to start promptly at 10.30am. Training ends at 12.00 noon and players should be collected by 12.15pm. The club cannot be responsible for unaccompanied children after this time. Obviously on Sundays when we have games, away matches etc these timings may change and your year group coach will advise on this.
Transport for away matches. The club / coaches cannot undertake to arrange lifts etc. If you are unable to accompany your child, arrangements must be made directly with other parents.
Club Shop. The shop will be open every Sunday during the season from 11.30 to 1.30pm. During the first 3 weeks of the season, it will be open from 10am. It will also be open on the first Saturday of the month from 2-3pm. In fact, we are trying to ensure it is open every Saturday, although it will be run by the Senior Club on Saturdays.
The shop stocks shirts, shorts, socks, training tops, waterproof coats/ jackets, head guards and body armour as well as items such as beanie hats, polo shirts, ties and rugby balls.
Emergency gum shields can be purchased from behind the bar before the shop opens.
Website. ( www.wilmslowrugby.com ) Each age group has its own page, for match reports & photos, as well as coaches’ communications regarding training & fixture meeting times etc. From this season, the website will represent the main vehicle for communication from coaches to parents, replacing emails. In addition it will have standard information such as contact information, fixtures, kitchen duty rota, codes of conduct for players and parents etc.
Sponsorship Opportunities. The club is always looking for sponsors & advertisers, ranging from a main sponsor, to advertising in the match day programme or taking a perimeter board. If you, your business or employer is interested, please contact the club.
Come and support the 1st xv. Most Saturdays in the season the senior teams kick off at 2.30pm. The 1st xv achieved promotion last season. The bar is open & there is an excellent feel down at the club. Children are of course welcome. On international weekends the games are shown on the big screen in the hall & TV in the bar. Bring your friends down for a beer & watch the games in a great atmosphere.
If your child has picked up a knock, please note the Club Physio is at the club most Tuesdays & Thursdays during Senior Training, from 7-9pm. This is a free service. Last season, several Juniors used it & reported excellent feedback.
