Sunday 26/10/08
Sedgley Park 17 Wilmslow 35

After struggling for the last two weeks the colts did well to beat a side in third place in the league. Despite only just getting a full team and with the usual number of cry offs and no shows, a makeshift side did very well.

To say that the pitch was tiny would not be an understatement, in fact the under 13’s had just played on it! Not knowing how this would affect the game and playing into a strong wind, fears were soon allayed when almost from the start Wilmslow were in the lead when Captain John Newsham took a quick tap to feed Alex Taylor who charged over for his third try in as many games. A few minutes later the opposition stuck back but Wilmslow replied immediately when an incisive break by Hamish Watson resulted in him scoring under the posts. Moments later another quickly taken penalty resulted in Jonny Gradon battering over the line, to make the score 12-21 at half time.
With the wind behind them in the second half Wilmslow increased their lead when a break by Hamish Watson allowed Jayam Patel to go over in the corner. The scoring was finished off by Richard Price, who burst through several tackles to score from his own half.
A special mention should also be made of Harry Valentine who landed 5 conversions out of 5!
This was a much better performance, the backs moved the ball well and there was lots of commitment in defence. There are still things to work on. Rucking and mauling still needs to improve and as a team we must learn not to throw the ball away, to often all it did was pass the problem on to another player but all in all well done.

Tries: Alex Taylor, Hamish Watson, Jonny Gradon, Jayam Patel,
Richard Price
Cons: Harry Valentine 5
