THE WHISTLERS’ TROPHY
The Manchester and District Referees’ Society has once again awarded Wilmslow their coveted Whistlers Trophy. Members of the Committee attended the annual Society Presidents Dinner this week and for the third time in six years, we were presented with the award which is made in recognition of the treatment visiting officials receive from a club – before, during and following matches. Chairman John Harries said: “Other than the London Society, Manchester Society is the largest in England, covering most of the north west – that’s a lot of clubs. It’s an honour and I don’t believe any other club has won it three times. The previous two awards were for the 1st XV’s efforts, this time it is awarded for those of the Vikings so on behalf of the Club, well done to you and your squad. It’s your ‘home ‘fixtures that are being judged so this award covers everything on match day – pitches/changing facilities (Maurice/Grant), meals (Fran/Joadie) and the bar (Keith and his staff) all contribute to a great Club atmosphere. This is recognition by the refereeing officials themselves nominating us, not a Committee, so we must be doing something right.”
