A.J.HALL’S FUNERAL – new date

It is with further regret we must pass on an amended date for AJ’s funeral.  It is now NEXT  Wednesday, June 24th.

There will be a short service at Brimington Crematorium, Chesterfield (S43 1AU) starting at 10.50am for family and close friends only.
This will be followed by a service at  St Anne’s Church, Over Haddon, starting at 1pm.
Over Haddon is directly above Bakewell heading towards Monyash. Turn right up King St in the centre of Bakewell, just past the Rutland Arms on the roundabout in the main square, follow for one mile up steep hill, passing Bakewell church on right and later Lady Manners School to left.
Turn left 400 yards past this turn off, and proceed a further 1 mile up hill until entering Over Haddon village.
It will be difficult to park that day for obvious reasons. The church is half way down a steep hill as if walking to Lathkill Dale.
Bryn Thompson will be going to the Church service and the Lathkill Pub afterwards, but not to the Crematorium.
He writes: “Judd, AJ’s widow has requested ‘no black to be worn’, and she has asked that people wear tweed or rugby shirts.  AJ would certainly have approved of this!
“The service will be a celebration of this great guy’s life, followed by one huge party at the Lathkill Hotel, one of the UK’s most scenic pubs and a place the big man loved dearly.
“If there are a few of us who want to go it may be worth looking into a minibus as this will go on for many hours in true Bakewell Mannerians tradition!
“For those who wish to write or send a card to Judd (Georgina) Hall, her address is: Lower Folds, Monyash Road, Bakewell, DE45 1JE.”

Dave SDcanlon writes today (Wednesaday 17th):  “The weather was not great as I rushed to Over Hadden, resulting with one adventure on a wet bend approaching the Cat & Fiddle.  On arrival I met with Kershy, in rugby shirt and looking confused: the church was empty, as was the pub.
Bryn may a sublime back row, and renowned story teller, but accurate with dates he is not.  After a couple of calls Shotts, courtesy of Bryns office PA, was able to inform us that Bryns diary has the funeral for next Wednesday!!  If anyone is interested in traveling next week allow 1hour and 15mins.” Apologies for the confusion, but rest assured, AJ will be smiling.
